UNIFORM FOR TEACHERS?

Have you ever thought about the effect that teachers' appearance has on educational process?
I'm sure that Dasha's speculations about uniform for teachers will make you interested in this topic.

Today, more and more schools in our country start to require all their students to wear uniform. After the storms of negative and positive emotions and arguments about this fact raved themselves out, there appeared one more significant question: should school teachers wear uniform as well as students?
Well, the «spirit» of a certain type of job should always be a necessary kind of thing.  It’s just as you walk into a bank and see the workers wearing special clothes, you can instantly feel the atmosphere and the status created by the uniform. That is the main reason why I’m inclined to believe that the answer to the question posed in the previous paragraph has to be positive. Also, in my opinion, every single teacher is first of all a role model for the ones he works with, no matter if it comes to studying or wearing uniform, so when teachers go on and on about pupils not looking properly, they should first of all look at what their own outfits are like. Setting a good example is the best way to get an effective result.
One more fact that needs to be considered is that it’s obvious that it would be unfair to all students to give teachers the freedom to put on whatever they want while pupils have to wear the same thing every day for the whole entire school year with no expression to share with anyone. If the purpose of uniform is to equalize everyone in school, then it would be reasonable to make teachers look in the same way to promote wide unity.
Finally, if teachers wore uniform, it would simply be easier for students to find them in school; they would feel safer and the sense of belonging to the same group would be more distinct. Setting aside cultural and religious issues, it’s very important to distinguish adults that belong to school and the ones who don’t. For the safety of children in schools, teachers wearing a uniform would be a remarkably easy addition to current safety methods.

To summarize, it would probably be a good compromise to make teachers wear a uniform to some extent or just follow some dress code to present themselves respectfully in a school environment.

  1. Thank you, Dasha for your work! Speaking about necessity of introduction uniform for teachers, I can`t help agreeing that it will be fair to all the students. Kids should wear uniforms, so why not teachers? Its unfair that pupils have to wear the same clothes everyday while the teachers can wear whatever they want.In my opinion, dress code will show that they are definitely a part of the school. Equalizing students and teachers would be a great way to show that everyone is in the same 'team'.Also, they would not be judged on their fashion sense and would have less to worry about. For example, what to wear tomorrow. Moreover, uniforms would make teachers look more professional and make the school look better.Of course, it is unfair to the teacher to have to wear a uniform, while their students have freedom of dress. So, if pupils have a dress code, teachers should have it too.
But i still believe that it would be much better if children and teachers didn`t have to wear uniform. In my personal opinion, everyone should have a chance to express himself through his clothes.

    1. Thank you for your interesting ideas Albina! I have never thought before that students are so much concerned about what their teachers wear at work:)

  2. I think that the issue of wearing uniform isn't only interesting for discussion, but also very relevant because, as Dasha has mentioned, more and more schools start requiring their students to wear uniform now. And, as we have been announced, pupils of our school are going to begin wearing it since January. And I believe that there should be something like a rule of permitted clothes for teachers as well (so it's not a uniform necessarily, as I see it) like white blouses or ones in pale colours and only black skirts and trousers. And if a school has a certain colour, blue for example, "the rule" can be the following: white blouse + blue skirt or trousres, blue blouse + black trousers/skirt or blue skirt or something like this.
But just like Albina, I don't want to have uniform as, firstly, we'll lose our individuality largely and, secondly, I don't think that clothes can influence the process of getting knowledge. But, our wish won't come true, obviously.

    1. Thank you Dilyara for your contribution to our discussion! I can't agree more with your opinion that clothes don't influence the process of getting knowledge.
