Happy Pumpkin Day?

Halloween is not a traditional holiday in our country. Some people have started celebrating it in Russia recently and they believe that it's a positive tendency to borrow holidays from different cultures. While there are people who are inclined to think that it's not a good idea and they insist on observing and preserving our national customs and traditions. Which opinion do you support? And what are your reasons?

CONGRATULATIONS!

One of the most significant steps in language studies is students' ability and desire to write poems in the target language. This fact indicates the achievement of the advanced level of language skills. But to be ready to make the result of your creative activity public is sometimes even more important. It means that you are mature enough to accept both praise and critique. So, participation in various contests is equally meaningful for language progress and social adaptation. That's why I always recommend my students not to miss chances to take part in contests and Olympiads. Karina and Dasha used this opportunity and now I'm excited to announce the results of the International Poetry Contest "Happy Teacher's Day":
Karina won the First Prize and Dasha took the Third Place! I'm sure you'll congratulate the girls and share our joy and pride.
You can read Karina's poem HERE
and Dasha's poem is HERE. Hope next time more students will decide to demonstrate their talents.

COLUMBUS DAY - A CONTROVERSIAL HOLIDAY

To Celebrate or Not
Today, Columbus Day is among the most controversial holidays in the United States. Some see Columbus as a hero, the courageous explorer whose discovery led to the settlement of North and South America. Others see him as a villain, a ruthless conqueror whose discovery led the the destruction of countless Native American people and cultures. (Quoted from http://www.theholidayzone.com/columbus/language.html) Which opinion do you support and why?
