Halloween is round the corner. It's time to remember what you already know about this holiday and to find out something that you haven't heard before .
Watch this video from History.com and report about things that appeared new to you.
Oh, I found this video so intersting! It seemed to me a bit funny but at the same time a bit frightening cause there were some moments with skeletons and ghosts in it. It was also exciting for me to learn some facts about the history of this holiday. I learnt that people spend much money for "halloween" costumes and candies so I can make a conclusion that this holiday is very spread in english-speaking countries. Some people of Russia also try to celebrate it but on the whole "halloween" isn't so popular in Russia. Hope soon it will be an official holiday in our country and I think everybody will celebrate it with great pleasure!
This video has aroused my curiosity! On the one hand, the authors are speculating about the roots of this truly jaw-dropping holiday. The phrase: "Bet you didn't know" is aimed at the people who really aspire to enrich their knowledge about this feast. For example, souling is a process of praying for dead souls and guising is the original form and name of trick-or-treating. And all these traditions were born in Medieval Britain and the rest of the world just borrowed them. And it's not a question that Halloween is a kid-centered and family-friendly holiday.
But on the other hand, there is a glimpse of the commercial groundwork of this holiday. A great deal of money - $2.5 billion give it or take it - is spent on this holiday annually!!! Moreover, Halloween is on the heels of Christmas concerning popularity! Christmas, beware!
To put it in a nut shell, the video produces a favourable impression as it gives priority to fun and enjoyment! It lets us distract from our routine for a change and get engaged in the mysterious and alluring world of Halloween! Thank you for the video!!
