FUTURE OF SCHOOLS

How will schools change in five-ten years? Have you ever tried to predict the future of our education? Do you want your children and grandchildren to be taught the way you are instructed today?
Maria got interested in these questions and decided to speculate on this topic.        We'd like to hear your ideas and opinions about the future of our schools.

Nowadays lots of people argue about schools of future. Some of them think that there won't be any schools at all and pupils will study at home with the help of technical devices. Others believe that school won't change and children will study in the same way they do now.
In my personal opinion, schools won't change dramatically. Of course, maybe there will be some innovations like e-books or tablets for every pupil. But on the whole, it won't be something unusual and extraordinary. I strongly believe that such system of education is the best for children of all ages. They can assimilate information better, because they can discuss new material, explain something in their own way and help each other to understand the program better.
On the opposite side, students can divide their work and have more free time. At the same time, everyone can study in the most suitable way for themselves.  It means that all kids are different. Someone can learn material faster; someone needs more time to learn rules. So, if children study at home, they can choose the most convenient way of getting education for them.
I strongly feel that the usual school is more useful for children. Real teachers can give them real examples from their own life. Moreover, pupils develop their speaking abilities in front of the public. In addition, they learn how to communicate with different people, how to behave in difficult situations and finally, how to be a good person.

To conclude, I'd like to say, that so many people so many opinions. But schools of the future will be similar to ours. And I hope they'll have new programs, modern equipment and lots of opportunities to improve pupils’ knowledge.

  1. I share Masha's opinion on this issue. Although I suppose that Russian system of education should be improved by making the process of both giving and getting knowledge more vivid and interactive via working with modern devices at lessons as this is the century of modern technology now, I like it on the whole. I would like my children and grandchildren to study nearly the way we're studying now because, as Masha has written, pupils get the information better when they're around other students and teachers who firstly explain topics and then do some exercises on it with us; get experience in communication. Considering the situation of when children get education at home alone working with modern technologies, I think it's not only boring but also difficult to study this way. Besides, children will become antisociable at once and have the problem of vision if schools become like this. So, hope, they won't.

  2. Thanks for the post!
If you ask me, the changes in the educational field are something no one can predict (anyone who's aware of what's happening in the world today or who simply watches TV news in the evening would definitely agree with me). As we talk about the future of schools, it's also important to consider how near or far the future we're talking about is, since everyone thinks of a different certain period of time. Well, in my opinion, the next 10-15 years of schooling will probably be just the way the current educational system works, but yet, with some advanced implementations and novelties fixed by the government. After that there will apparently be needed some radical kind of changes, cutting the outdated schooling traditions and methods at their root and foundation of some absolutely new educational organization. That may include anything from letting all students study at home tete-a-tete with their electronic devices, robots or whatever is going to be invented at that age, to making it parents' responsibility to give their children the necessary amount of knowledge which would be enough for passing special exams after a certain period of time. These are the ways of school developing that I find the most realistic, considering the lack of candidates for the teachers' place that we have nowadays (it's actually not a secret that the number of people entering pedagogical universities is getting smaller and smaller every year). In fact, I don't think that we can say anything about the future of schools for sure at this point, perhaps, the things will be more clear in a while. Yet, it's rather interesting to to make assumptions, speculate and debate on this topic; besides, who knows, maybe some of us are the ones who are going to sign the new Educational Bills in the future?

    1. What a great comment Daria! You're right, it's really exciting to make predictions about future schools. I can recommend to read the article "When your teacher is a robot". Perhaps, some assumption could be thought-provoking for you.

  3. This topic is really significant as well as actual nowadays. I entirely agree with Maria, saying that usual school is more useful for children. Moreover, I strongly believe that time-tested traditions is the most important feature of a good school. Although I find all the notifications rather useful and interesting, I appreciate the opinion about the harm of using modern technologies during the school lessons. To my mind, having a large library with video and audio materials at school is better than computers. I can't judge these novelties strictly, because I use them in everyday life as well. But I'm really afraid about the future of our education and the level of schoolchildren's knowledge. Even now most students prefer to serve the internet instead of open the book. What will happen next?

    1. Good point, Kira! While embracing new technologies, we shouldn't forget about common sense and critical attitude to reasonable usage of innovations.

  4. Well, i agree with Masha that there won`t be a big difference between today`s and future schools. Of course, modern technologies and new system of education will be accepted. And everything will be done to make students` school life better and more effective. Speaking about studies at home, i don`t think it is a good idea.I share girls` opinions that technical devices do more harm than good and children can become antisocial. I strongly believe that usual schools are much better because pupils have possibility to discuss some subjects,to help each other. And it is more interesting to listen to a teacher who can tell you different stories or explain something that you didn`t understand . Moreover, children talk with their friends, teachers. Consequently, they learn how to communicate with people. It will help them in their future lives. Anyway, we don`t know exactly what kind of school will be in our country in 2027 for example. we can only predict. Who knows, maybe getting education at home will be more effective...

    1. It sounds like you are satisfied with the way you're taught now, Albina. It's great that you try to speculate about the possible changes in our system of education and the consequences they may bring in future. Thank you for your comment!
