What's YOUR English?

Watch this entertaining video. Do you find it thought-provoking? What are your ideas?

  1. WOW! The video is jaw-dropping!! I wish I could pick up more ideas from it but I rely on the slang and a fast pace, but anyway I did get the gist!

The debates between British and American English have been witnessed since the language was brought to the colonies as Professor says. From then on the British can't stand all changes which affect their mother tongue (little wonder they are conservative in everything) whereas the Americans do their best to evolve the language to their own usage. Who's right? Whose language is to be admired now? Deep down, there are neither winners nor losers. British is the origin of all accents and dialects of English, but due to its spread to America, it "dominates the globe... the world's preferred language (as far as I understood). So, but for the American colonies, English wouldn't have been on the increase.

Admittedly, English learners face so many problems nowadays while getting accustomed to differences between American and British synonyms, slang... But isn't it marvellous that there is an opportunity to get closer not just to the language but to its people because the language absorbs everything what is happening to its speakers?

To sum up, never be discouraged if you don’t know how to use American words or get confused because of so similar but different American and British English. Learning English is immortal and you’ll persevere with all the mishaps if you study hard and avidly!

  2. I can't help admiring your ability to reveal the essence of the theme, Karina! I would also support the idea of embracing the variety of language means as soon as they reflect manifold ways of thinking and percieving the reality. Thanks for expressing your ideas about it!
