This chart devoted to the ways of learning English reveals a lot of secrets.
ReplyDeleteTo begin with, the graph is divided into six categories according to different methods of learning English and there is one more margin of the general question. The majority of people state that the most effective way to learn English is travelling to English speaking countries and having classes with other foreigners. If I took part in this poll, I'd also opt for this option as it actually makes sense.
Next, the general question lets the authors build their chart speculating about various methods of learning English. Travelling takes the first position. Curious enough, the same number of people - 36%- are sure that travelling to the UK as well as to the USA is fruitful for English skills. It must be insulting for the conservative British (especially if this graph is more likely to be a British one due to some spelling features)!!! Then we witness that a lot of people dedicate their time to learning English with the help of TV programmes and movies. 26% of them watch "Friends" and 24% of them watch "Harry Potter". Besides, "Friends" fans long to go to the USA, unlike them, "Harry Potter" followers are eager to go to the UK. The correlation between favourite pastimes and the countries to visit is obvious, isn't it? Simultaneously, 80% of all respondents learn English by listening to music. Judging by the statistics, Bob Marley's creative work takes the leading role in this sense. Deep down, that is weird for me, maybe, more adults than teens participated in this survey then. Last but not least important, computer games and comics have undying people's appeal. That's nonsense for me as I'm a buff of neither of these activities. Nevertheless, the results speak for themselves.
To sum up, though the whole tendency is obvious - learning English by travelling but also working on one's own - it's unfeasible to imagine all the thorough work that lies beyond the picture. This information can be of primary importance for educators teaching English. They can pinpoint learners' most favourite activities and contribute to their boost.
