Watch this short video and try to answer Jay Walker's question: "Is English mania good or bad?" Why do people need a common language? Why has English become so popular? What is YOUR reason for learning English?
Learning a foreign language widens your scope. Setting a goal to learn more than one foreign language is worth being praised! Keep studying, broaden your mind and become a lifelong learner!
Well, it seems to me that I've already seen this video on EnglishCentral. But, at any rate, I reckon that English mania cannot be bad! Is knowledge bad? Is one's longing to be advanced, to evolve bad? No way!! Only an illiterate person who doesn't possess English might disapprove of this beautiful language. Moreover, no one states that a universal mathematical or music language is bad, right? People do need to have a common language to devote precious time to solving problems instead of attempts to understand each other. As Jay Walker says, English is a problem-solving language. As there're loads of problems worldwide, English is in great demand everywhere, that's the reason of its popularity. My initial reason for learning English was just the absence of another choice. But now it's an essential part of my life which has eclipsed all other hobbies or interests. English is a key to a good life, it's a key to education, travelling, jobs. I'm really grateful that it's available to learn English at a high level in our school!
I do agree with Jay Walker and the girls commented on this video. I don't really think that English mania is some kind of bad, it never was and it never will be. If a person learns English, there're only two ways: whether he learns it just because someone makes him do that, or he really needs & likes it. And I'm so happy that most of the people from all over the world work with this language because of the second reason. Wise people and people who really want a beautiful future for themselves, they realize how important it is to be on good turms with English. I personally need English more than anything else, as that is the subject my life is gonna be built on and my future job would be connected with, as well. And the second reason is (hoping that wouldn't sound funny for y'all), I seriously thinking about moving to the US in the future and spending the entire life there, so I demand from myself to learn English on the level that will give me a chance to know this language as good as I know Russian now. And of course, I wish everyone could have such an aspiration to English because that is the language that connects people worldwide, helps them to solve the global problems and, as Karina has said, English is a key to success.
Dasha, thank you for being a part of our community and for sharing our passion for language learning! Hope all your dreams will come true (with the help of the knowledge of English, of course) :)
