Vika shared her ideas about exams. What are your opinions?
There are a
lot of issues connected with passing exams nowadays. The problem of tests is
widely discussed in the media. That comes because some people believe that passing
exams is essential as it brings an important experience, while others are
inclined to suppose that exams do more harm than good.
From my
point of view, passing exams can be very helpful and beneficial. First of all,
you prepare yourself for different difficulties that you might face in your
daily life. Well, I mean that you learn how to concentrate when you really need
it or how not to get nervous in stressful situations. And secondly, you expand
the boundaries of the familiar world, anyway. For instance, you have to brush
up all the information you`ve already known and, on top of this, you`ll have to
learn something new. That`s the way you cultivate and become smarter.
But some
people don`t support my opinion. They strongly insist on the fact that exams
have lots of drawbacks. For example, such people claim that exams make
everybody extremely fussy and destroy the nervous system in general. Therefore,
exams can do lots of harm to susceptible people. Moreover, tests don`t really
show your knowledge because the furniture of your mind isn`t just about putting
“A”, “B” or “C” on a particular topic.
Probably,
nobody can deny that all the mentioned points are reasonable. Of course, there
is no doubt you`re going to be nervous and tense while passing the exam, but
you should understand that your whole life is just about testing yourself and
preparing to solve various problems. And taking the second flaw into
consideration, I must admit that I do share this perception, but still, it
strikes me that exams are worth this little injustice.
In
conclusion, I`d like to say that although, exams are rather exhausting and they
undoubtedly get on your nerves, they`re challenging. Thus, you prepare yourself
for difficulties that you`ll have to get over throughout your life.
Well, this topic is inevitably world-shattering. I wholeheartedly share Vika's idea about the necessity of sitting exams as it is the way to secure one's knowledge and move further. On behalf of those who have already passed the exams, I'd like to transfer only one idea the students who are going to pass their state exams. If you cheat, you don't respect your knowledge and your efforts made during your preparation. Bear it in mind while getting ready for class 11 attestation. Never lose your face as the Thai say - never lose your dignity no matter what. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Karina for your comment! I'm sure your ideas will be helpful for our students.
DeleteI do agree with Vika and Karina that exams are extremely useful .They help us to improve our knowledge and to revise information which has been learnt. Exams make students face an intellectual challenge and test their skills and abilities.Of course, it is not a perfect way to check students` knowledge because some of them prefer to cheat instead of testing yourselves and such people don`t get their real results. And this is very disappointing! Anyway, we all should go through this trial even if it is so challenging. As you know, what doesn`t kill you makes you stronger.
ReplyDeleteThank you for expressing your opinion on this topic Albina! It's really important that you realize the value of such experience.
DeleteUndoubtedly, students should pass exams as it's a great way both to refresh and generalize the information a person got throughout the time of tuition and see the level of his knowledge. Besides, while getting ready for the exam a student definitely learns something new. Although, as the girls have already written, exams can influence our nervous system badly, they give us invaluable experience. Actually, I don't like a test format much because I believe that it doesn't show a level of person's knowledge authentically enough as the results of the test can be influenced by a person's degree of luck. But, on the other hand, this format makes an exam less stressful as examinees should just choose an option.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking part in our discussion Dilyara! I also share you idea that the results of exam tests don't reflect the level of students' competence. What could be done to change/improve this situation?
ReplyDeleteWell, if you ask me, blaming the ones who organize exams for students is a wrong position, since everyone understands that studying at any school or university makes absolutely no sense without periodic knowledge-testing for students. None of us would ever know whether he should trust a doctor he's on treatment with or an interpreter he hired if those people's qualification wasn't checked before they graduated from the universities they studied at. Apparently, complete absence of any kind of examinations would allow any passer-by in the street get any job, and that would be extremely and extremely dangerous, since that job might require some special baggage of knowledge which would not be tested by anyone or anything. Of course, no matter in what way your level of knowledge gets checked, whether you're standing in front of your teacher or choosing "A", "B" or "C", it's alright to get cold feet. We all sometimes have to go through the really tough situations when we're "so nervous we could die", but it doesn't mean we should try to do our best to avoid or cancel them, this is just what life is about; all we got to do is change our emotions about what's going on, get pleasure from showing what we have in store for the examinators & think about how helpful the experiences like that will be for our future.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't think it would make any sense to try to make the environment at the exams more comfortable. Students only get nervous because of their fear of getting a bad result, more exactly, of the unpleasant consequences it may cause. In my opinion, the only way not to be scared of your exam to death is to be 100% ready for anything that can be faced in the tasks, which definitely requires a lot of work and energy put into the preparation. Perhaps, that's the reason why most students prefer discussing the possible ways of making the atmosphere at the exams more friendly to studying hard; blaming someone or something is always easier.
