The Future of Books?

Once the invention of printing became a really great event in the history of our civilization and gave rise to a faster progress in all spheres of the modern society. Printed books have been the symbol of learning for many centuries, but now it's time for the new generation of books.
Watch this short video where software developer Mike Matas presents the first interactive didgital book for the iPad and demonstrates the options it offers for its readers.
What are your reactions and ideas about it? Do you fancy reading this book? Would you like to make predictions whether you're going to have such interactive books at school? What are the possible advantages and disadvantages of such books?
P.S. If you are interested in what is being done in this direction in Russia, you can check out this news.

  1. Actually, this video produced a great impression on me. I'm glad that soon all the people around the world will be able to work with e-books (at least I hope so). Undoubtedly, there are much more information in such books than in paper ones, because not only texts but also some videos and bright motile pictures are included in it. And that's great that it is possible not only to zoom or move a picture in order to see all the details of an objecr but to spot at what city or town it was taken!
Speaking about appearance of e-books at schools, I'm sure it will help pupils to understand topics better and such an interesting way of giving information will definetely interest them. As far as I know, nowadays the magority of children don't enjoy studying. Maybe it's because pupils find it boring just to read texts. So, I guess these books will encourage us for a harder work at lessons and at home. Deep down, I hesitate about if our generation will have an opportunity to work with them at school but I guess our children and grandchildren distinctly will.
Speaking about these books' influence on our health, I guess it does no harm on our organism. I don't think e-books are more harmful for our eyes than paper books are. And the fact that children's school bags wouldn't be so heavy as they are usually now is wonderful!
